The Haval Raptor Hi4 is an all-new plug-in hybrid SUV recently unveiled by the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). The model has applied for sales approval in China and is attracting attention with its unique exterior design and lower fuel consumption rates.
The Haval Raptor Hi4 entered the Chinese market at the end of 2023 as a response from Great Wall Motors to the growing trend of plug-in hybrid vehicles. In April 2024, Haval launched a new version of the Raptor. However, in the first seven months of 2024, this model sold less than 24,000 units, which is disappointing. Now, Great Wall Motors is preparing to facelift this SUV to boost customer demand.
The new Haval Raptor Hi4 adopts a new design language with rectangular headlights instead of round ones. Its front features a larger black grille with chrome accents. At the rear, it has a side-opening tailgate with a spare tire. Previously, Great Wall had applied for a gasoline version of the Raptor with the same design.
The dimensions of the Haval Raptor Hi4 measure 4680mm in length, 1950mm in width, and 1822mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2738mm. The overall length with the spare tire is 4800mm. Thanks to the short front bumper and compact body shape, the approach and departure angles are 24 and 30 degrees, respectively. The vehicle is available with three wheel options, including 18 and 19 inches. The curb weight ranges from 2055 to 2135 kg depending on the model.
This vehicle features a new PHEV engine lineup, consisting of a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with a maximum output of 152 horsepower. The same engine is available in the third generation of Haval H6, H3, and Kool Dog. The current model has an output of 165 horsepower, and the facelifted version will have slightly lower power. There is no information yet about the electric motors. Three battery options from SVOLT are available, similar to the current version:
18.74 kWh, 81 km
19.09 kWh, 81 km
27.54 kWh, 115 km
According to the files from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the fuel consumption of the vehicle is 1.13 liters per 100 km, while the current model consumes 1.15 liters/100 km. This indicates that the new Raptor has slightly improved fuel efficiency. This vehicle is expected to debut at the 2024 Chengdu Auto Show on August 30.
