Earlier this year, reports suggested that the Mitsubishi Pajero could make a comeback in 2027, with indications that it may feature a luxurious touch to compete with the Range Rover. The same sources indicate that the popular off-road vehicle will be reintroduced as an advanced hybrid SUV based on the Outlander platform.
Regarding the 2027 Mitsubishi Pajero, it is expected to come with a familiar and robust front design. The vehicle’s shape is instantly recognizable, and the published renderings depict a familiar design inspired by the Outlander with a streamlined roof. It features high ground clearance and a high hood line that drops sharply down reminiscent of older Dodge Ram trucks.

The vehicle will also feature slim LED daytime running lights mounted above geometric trim surrounding the main headlights. The lower bumper is designed to enhance approach angles for off-road driving. The dynamic side profile boasts unique doors, black pillars, and wheel arch trims, contributing to a modern, stylish, and bold appearance. At the rear, the vehicle sports a full-width T-shaped rear light cluster with a split tailgate that includes a separate glass section for easy access.
The vehicle is expected to have a strong exterior design and luxurious interior fittings with advanced technologies. It will come with a multi-layered leather-covered dashboard featuring vertical air vents and a low-mounted touchscreen.
The Pajero will have larger interior dimensions compared to the Outlander, enhancing comfort in the third row and increasing cargo capacity. It will also include phone charging, an AI-powered audio system, wireless updates, along with a comprehensive set of tech features and driver assistance systems.
Reports indicate that the Pajero will utilize an updated CMF-C/D platform and an improved version of the 2.4-liter hybrid engine found in the Outlander. However, it will come with a substantial increase in power. This system features two electric motors on the rear axle and one in the front, working alongside the gasoline engine. Overall, the vehicle is expected to produce over 382 horsepower.
The vehicle will provide more than just a balance between performance and fuel efficiency, as the immediate power and torque of the electric motor systems will enhance its off-road capabilities. This is similar to dynamic torque steering in conjunction with the front and rear electronic locking differential systems.
Key competitors for the revamped Pajero could include the Lexus GX, Land Rover Defender, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Range Rover Sport, Audi Q7, BMW X7, and Infiniti QX80.
