On November 6, 2024, Chinese new energy vehicle brand XPeng Motors officially launched its annual technology extravaganza—XPeng Motors AI Technology Day. During this event, XPeng not only demonstrated its profound capabilities in the field of AI technology, but also unveiled five groundbreaking innovations, marking significant advancements in intelligence, electrification, and flying cars among other areas.
AI Chip
Firstly, at this event, XPeng Motors introduced its self-developed AI chip—Turing Chip.
Designed specifically for AI, this processor features a 40-core CPU that can locally run large models with 30 billion parameters, and includes two NPUs and an architecture tailored for neural networks, providing formidable computing power for AI vehicles.
Compared to the Nvidia Orin X chip, the Turing Chip’s performance is equivalent to three Orin X chips, with AI computing power potentially exceeding 750 TOPS. This breakthrough signifies XPeng Motors' leading position in the AI chip domain.
AI Vehicles
In addition to the Turing Chip, XPeng Motors also launched the Kunpeng Super Electric System during the event. Here, "Kun" represents a super range-extension system utilizing next-generation technology; "Peng" signifies XPeng Motors’ purely electric system.
In its hybrid section, the platform employs a mixed silicon carbide coaxial electric drive system and a full-platform 800V technology, achieving a pure electric range of 430 km.
Combined with other energy forms, the total range can reach up to 1400 km, allowing users to charge only once or twice a week.
Moreover, XPeng’s range-extension platform also features exceptionally fast recharging rates; with a 5C super charger, it can recharge from 10% to 80% in just 12 minutes.
Flying Cars
It's worth noting that XPeng has made significant strides in the field of flying cars. According to reports, the XPeng Heitech flying car is user-friendly, requiring only five minutes for users to learn the basic operations, and three hours to master them.
The aerial intelligence driving system can automatically plan flight routes, and a one-click reporting feature allows for rapid takeoff.
In terms of safety, the XPeng Heitech flying car employs a comprehensive safety redundancy design to ensure flight safety.
Additionally, XPeng's flying car has submitted for airworthiness certification from the Civil Aviation Administration of China, with its global debut expected in November and the official launch of pre-sales set for December.
AIOS
In terms of cockpit systems, the XPeng Tianji AIOS integrates the powerful capabilities of a "GPT-4o"-like model into the intelligent cockpit.
This signifies that future smart cockpits will resemble a human butler, capable of providing proactive services and even possessing the ability to think. The implementation of XPeng Tianji AIOS relies on an upgrade of both hardware and software.
On the hardware front, the system is powered by two high-performance chips; on the software side, it employs a large model with tens of billions of parameters, delivering a revolutionary AI experience to users.
AI Robots
Lastly, XPeng has also showcased its latest advancements in robotics technology. The newly introduced AI robot features highly anthropomorphic characteristics, designed with human-sized proportions, and its "brain" is equipped with a Turing AI chip, giving it human-like thinking and learning abilities.
Furthermore, the robot's hands are designed to human-scale with 15 degrees of freedom, and its entire body possesses 62 degrees of freedom, enabling it to perform complex movements.
Summary
XPeng Motors' performance at AI Tech Day undoubtedly showcased its ambition and capability in the field of AI technology. From the development of proprietary AI chips to the implementation of extended-range technology, and breakthroughs in flying cars and robotics, XPeng Motors is driving the transformation of future mobility with AI at its core. We look forward to witnessing the continued progress of this Chinese new energy vehicle brand.
