What's New for 2025: Volkswagen

In the 2025 model year, Volkswagen is actively embracing the latest technological upgrades, yet many questions remain regarding the practicality of these features. The use of ChatGPT has expanded to most models, but a subscription is necessary to unlock certain functionalities. More importantly, all 2025 Volkswagen ID electric models now come equipped with a standard 12.9-inch touchscreen.

The world's second-largest automaker is in the midst of transitioning to electric vehicles, similar to many other manufacturers. However, this journey has been bumpy since the launch of the Volkswagen ID.4 crossover SUV in 2021, which is set to receive a significant tech refresh in 2024. The 2025 Volkswagen ID.7, initially expected this year, has been delayed indefinitely, while the highly anticipated ID.Buzz electric van has been pushed back until the fourth quarter of this year.

This reshuffled lineup may help explain why, domestically, the Volkswagen Group was outsold by Tesla and Subaru in the first quarter of 2024. Here are the changes to the existing lineup, and what's new for 2025.

New models

2025 Volkswagen ID.Buzz

  • The three-row electric van that succeeds the legendary Bus is powered by a 91-kwh battery back and a single motor shared with the ID.4, rated at 282 hp.

  • Range is estimated at about 250 miles but hasn’t been certified by the EPA.

  • The First Edition features a two-tone exterior with a unique 20-inch wheel design, roof rail cross bars, a panoramic roof, a 700-watt premium sound system, power-sliding doors, and a power tailgate.

  • The base Pro S will get 20-inch wheels, a parking-assistance system, 30-color ambient lighting, and the 12.9-inch infotainment system.
