Volvo has launched its first-ever minivan, called EM90, classified as an MPV.
This fully electric model boasts a range of over 720 kilometers and is designed specifically for Chinese customers, competing with a range of electric vehicles as well as traditional cars like the Lexus LM. So far, there are no plans to launch this new model in Western markets.

Volvo claims that the minivan draws inspiration from the 1953 Duett, a station wagon that was produced until 1969. The new vehicle is considered a variant of the previously introduced Zeker 009, yet it features a distinctive grille, hammer-shaped headlights, and some luxurious elements.
Given that the EM90 is essentially a Zeker 009, its external dimensions are expected to reflect those of its counterpart, including a length of 5209 mm, a width of 2024 mm, and a height of 1867 mm, with a wheelbase of 3205 mm.
The electric MPV is set to launch with a single electric motor generating 268 horsepower on the rear axle, allowing acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 8.3 seconds. It comes equipped with a 116 kWh CATL battery that can charge from 10% to 80% in less than 30 minutes. Volvo states that the EM90 offers a range of up to 738 km according to Chinese CLTC driving cycle tests.
The EM90 is equipped with bidirectional charging, allowing its battery to be used as a power bank to charge other electric cars and devices. Volvo has not confirmed whether it will offer the EM90 with the dual electric motors found in the 009 model, which provides all-wheel drive and produces a combined output of 536 horsepower, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds.
Six-Seat Design with Plenty of Technology

The EM90 is designed to be a luxurious family transport vehicle as much as it is a mobile office. It offers three rows of seating in a 2+2+2 configuration. The standout feature is the middle row, which boasts extremely comfortable seats with electric reclining, heating, and ventilation, along with foldable tables. For video conferencing, a 15.6-inch screen descends from the ceiling, supporting phone screen mirroring.

The retractable screen in the EM90 is one of many multifunctional displays and smart surfaces. According to Volvo, with just a press of a button or a voice command to the assistant, the interior can easily transform into a “theater, meeting room, or bedroom for the rear seats,” with screens, seats, windows, air conditioning, and lighting adjusted accordingly.

The new Volvo EM90 is a luxury electric minivan priced at $114,000. It features a digital instrument cluster at the front and a larger 15.4-inch central entertainment system similar to a tablet, with very few physical buttons.
The EM90 is equipped with a comprehensive suite of advanced driver assistance systems using an extensive array of sensors, including high-definition cameras, surround-view cameras, millimeter-wave radar, and ultrasonic radars.
