The 2021 Nissan X-Trail features a 7-speed continuously variable transmission (CVT).
There are two types of CVTs: variable pulley CVT and traditional CVT.
The transmission speed is adjusted by changing the contact radius between the drive and driven pulleys.
The CVT allows for a continuous change in transmission ratio, optimizing the relationship between the transmission system and engine operation, thereby improving overall fuel efficiency and power performance.
The working principle of the CVT is as follows:
First, the power output from the engine is transmitted to the CVT's driving pulley, then through a V-belt to the driven pulley, and finally, it is transferred to the wheels via a reduction gear and differential to drive the vehicle;
Second, during operation, axial movement of the movable discs of the driving and driven pulleys changes the engagement radius with the V-belt, which is controlled by the driver through the hydraulic pump cylinder pressure adjustment;
Finally, the continuous adjustment of the working radius of the driving and driven pulleys allows for stepless speed changes.
