Toyota is making waves in the Chinese market with its latest release, the bZ7, a brand-new electric sedan in the growing bZ series. This fully electric C-segment sedan is anticipated to debut as a production model next year, ready to compete fiercely with contenders like Xiaomi's SU7, BYD's Han, and Zeekr's S7.
Notably, this sedan is expected to be exclusive to the Chinese market. While Toyota only has one fully electric model, the bZ4X, outside China, the bZ series is rapidly expanding in China, starting with the bZ3 sedan. The bZ7 boasts a sleek design reminiscent of a graceful swan, featuring a closed front fascia and distinctive headlight arrangements that project a sense of the future; similarly, the rear light design captivates with its unique visual appeal.
Internally, the bZ7 is believed to be linked to Project 630D. In May, GAC Group discussed and approved a proposal for the GAC Toyota 630D project. Early design sketches indicated that GAC Toyota plans to launch a mid-to-large-sized fully electric sedan this year, named Comfort Space, suggesting that the bZ7, Comfort Space, and Project 630D may be the same vehicle.
Currently, the GAC Toyota joint venture sells the bZ3X and bZ4X models, while the FAW Toyota joint venture offers the bZ3 and bZ4X. The bZ3C is set to join the FAW lineup in the coming months, having already appeared on the Ministry of Industry's list in September.
Although the bZ3X is already listed on the GAC Toyota website, deliveries will not begin until March. Both the bZ3X and bZ3C made their debuts at the Beijing Auto Show earlier this year and continued to be showcased in their concept form at the 2023 Shanghai Auto Show. The bZ7 is expected to hit the market in the summer of 2025.
