Toyota plans to revolutionize the Indian SUV market by launching four new models in the next 12 months, including the Urban Cruiser Taisor, hybrid Fortuner, seven-seater Hayrider, and the all-electric Europa.
1. Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor
Toyota is set to unveil the Urban Cruiser Taisor on April 4, 2024, marking its entry into the coupe SUV segment. Currently, Toyota has no vehicles in this sector. This model is derived from Maruti Suzuki Fronx and will position itself below the Urban Cruiser Hyraider and above the Glanza. Compared to the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, external changes are expected in the headlights, grille, DRLs, updated taillights, and wheel design.
2. Toyota Fortuner Light Hybrid
The popular Toyota model, Fortuner, is preparing to receive a light hybrid version. This model, equipped with a 48-volt mild hybrid system, aims to enhance performance while reducing emissions and improving fuel efficiency. The light hybrid variants are likely to receive a 2.8-liter 4-cylinder turbo diesel engine producing 197 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque. It will also come with a 6-speed automatic transmission.
3. Toyota Hayrider 7-Seater
The seven-seater version of the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hayrider is expected to debut early next year and will join the lineup to compete against prominent players like MG Hector Plus, Tata Safari, and Hyundai Alcazar. This variant will feature some distinctive styling updates to set it apart from the standard five-seater model. The seven-seater Hayrider will be significantly longer than the five-seater version to accommodate the additional row of seats. Its engine is expected to be inspired by the Hayrider’s powerful 1.5-liter hybrid petrol engine, which provides a blend of performance and efficiency. A six-seater variant is also expected to be offered.
4. All-Electric Europa
This vehicle is based on the Suzuki eVX concept model and will compete with Tata Nexon EV, MG ZS EV, and Mahindra M XUV 300. It will be Toyota’s first fully electric SUV. The electric vehicle is being launched as part of the Toyota-Maruti Suzuki partnership and is expected to be a version of the eVX.
