Toyota plans to revolutionize the Indian SUV market by launching four new models in the next twelve months. These new launches include the Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor, the Fortuner Hybrid, the seven-seater Hyrider, and the electric Urbaan.
1. Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor
Toyota is unveiled the Urban Cruiser Taisor on April 4, 2024, marking its entry into the coupe SUV segment. Currently, Toyota has no vehicles in this sector. This model is derived from the Maruti Suzuki Fronx and will position itself below the Urban Cruiser Hyrider and above the Glanza. Compared to the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, external changes are expected in the headlamps, grille, DRLs, updated rear lamps, and wheel design.
2. Toyota Fortuner Light Hybrid
The iconic Toyota Fortuner is preparing to welcome a light hybrid version. This model, equipped with a 48-volt light hybrid system, aims to boost performance while reducing emissions and enhancing fuel efficiency. The light hybrid models are likely to feature a 2.8-liter turbo diesel engine with 197 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque, along with a 6-speed automatic transmission.
3. Toyota Hyrider 7-Seater
The seven-seater version of the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyrider is expected to debut early next year, joining the lineup to compete against major players like MG Hector Plus, Tata Safari, and Hyundai Alcazar. This model will feature some distinctive design updates to differentiate it from the standard five-seater version. The seven-seater Hyrider will be significantly longer than the five-seater version to accommodate the extra row of seats. The engine is expected to be inspired by the Hyrider's powerful 1.5-liter hybrid gasoline engine, providing a blend of performance and efficiency. A six-seater version is also expected to be offered.
4. Electric Urbaan
This vehicle is based on the Suzuki eVX concept model and will compete with the Tata Nexon EV, MG ZS EV, and Mahindra MXUV 300. This will be Toyota's first fully electric SUV. The electric vehicle is launched under the Toyota-Maruti Suzuki partnership and is expected to be a version of the eVX.
