The Toyota Tacoma lineup is like a treasure trove of options, featuring affordable SR variants, luxurious Limited models, and robust TRD Pro editions. However, among these choices, few can match the excellence of the Toyota #84 TRD ProRunner Race Concept, which will make its debut at SEMA.
Described as a "vision of what a custom race truck could look like," this concept has been built to compete in the Stock Mid-Size off-road racing category. It is based on the XtraCab pickup and is outfitted with numerous components derived from the Tacoma TRD Pro. Undoubtedly, the truck's appearance is set to turn heads, showcasing a striking Mudbath color combined with a classic-inspired design, enhanced by chrome mirrors and door handles.
Additionally, inspired by vintage Tacoma trucks, the model features an ARB sports bar, auxiliary lighting, and polished aluminum wheels wrapped in BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain T/A tires. At the rear, there is a spare tire in the bed, and the tailgate has been replaced with a mesh to reduce weight.
Given that the concept is designed for off-road racing, the suspension has received significant attention. It boasts TRD upper control arms along with FOX Quick Switch 3 Internal Bypass shocks featuring aluminum casings and a complete set of skid plates for added protection.
While Toyota has not disclosed much about the interior design, it features red SofTex seats with four-point harnesses, a custom safety cage, and TRD Pro branding. The automaker has yet to mention performance specifications, but the Tacoma TRD Pro is equipped with the i-Force Max powertrain consisting of a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, a 1.87-kilowatt-hour nickel-metal hydride battery, and an electric motor integrated into an 8-speed automatic transmission, providing a combined output of 326 horsepower and 630 Nm of torque.
