The Toyota Hilux Champ is well-known for its high customization capabilities, making the transformation of this budget-friendly pickup truck into a seven-seater SUV, designed for passenger comfort, unsurprising. Its interior features a closed cabin with three rows of seating, emphasizing practicality. This transformation was orchestrated by an Indonesian company named New Armada, specializing in bus body manufacturing. However, the vehicle will be officially sold by Toyota Astra Motor as a complete vehicle in the Indonesian market. The first prototype was showcased in October, but the company has now shared images of the production version on social media, confirming availability in early 2025.

The front of the vehicle borrows from the pickup design, while the rear has been entirely redesigned to reflect a distinctive boxy shape, striving to appear as a brand new SUV. The rear doors and the intricate side window designs also showcase a meticulously crafted result, seemingly the product of artificial intelligence.

At the rear, there is a large tailgate emblazoned with the name 'Rangga', accompanied by a set of vertically mounted basic design tail lights. The team also added a longer roof section with roof rails and retained a significant amount of unpainted plastic cladding on the vehicle's lower section. Finally, the six-spoke black alloy wheels aim to give the LCV a more urban look.

Inside, the vehicle features two additional rows of seats in a 2+3+2 configuration, with the prototype equipped with leather-like upholstery that seems to offer reclining functionality. However, despite the spaciousness, the luggage area behind the third row appears limited.

It is based on a more affordable version of the IMV platform with a removable frame, similar to the regular Hilux. In Indonesia, the model is available with a 2.0-liter gasoline engine producing 137 horsepower or a more powerful 2.4-liter turbo diesel engine generating 148 horsepower. Power is transferred to the rear wheels via a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission.Toyota Hilux Champ Transforms into a Seven-Seater SUV
