While global car manufacturers are focusing on SUVs, the Sedan remains a favourite for many in the Middle East market, especially the Toyota Camry and Mazda 6, which have been iconic in their class.
Toyota Camry is like a barrel, even in all aspects, no shortcomings. The Mazda 6, on the other hand, is more like a bouquet of roses, with each flower being different lengths and opening up differently. In this article, we'll compare these two cars in detail.
Exterior
As one of the world's best-selling mid-size sedans, Toyota Camry's exterior design has always maintained a balance of stability and dynamism. The new ninth-generation Camry adopts a more aggressive and dynamic style in its exterior design.
Sharp LED headlights create a strong visual impact and continue the latest Toyota concept. The body lines are simple and refined, while the side design is smooth, especially the treatment of the high waistline, which makes the whole car more dynamic.
The dimensions of the 2024 Camry are as follows:
Length | 4915mm |
Width | 1840mm |
Heigh | 1450mm |
Wheelbase | 2825mm |
The Mazda 6 still has its own unique charm despite being released 10 years ago, and has always been recognisable in its appearance with its ‘’Spirit‘’ design language. After all the improvements, the front chromium is now bigger and the style of the centre mesh has also been adjusted, giving the impression that it is trying to change people's image of it as a young and sporty car, and to move closer to a sense of luxury.
Not sure what words to use to describe the side and rear of the Mazda 6 ( looking at the picture ), this shape, in the same price range is really difficult to find competitors.
The dimensions of the Mazda6 are as follows:
Length | 4870mm |
Width | 1840mm |
Heigh | 1451mm |
Wheelbase | 2830mm |
Both cars are not very different in size and wheelbase, but the difference in ride space between the two cars is not insignificant.
Interior and Comfort
The interior of the Toyota Camry retains the simplicity of Japanese style, but without piling on the big screens like today's electric-powered cars, it's more youthful and luxurious compared to the old model.
The centre console adopts a multi-layered design with piano lacquer panels and metallic accents to enhance the overall quality. The basic model gets a 7-inch instrument cluster, while the premium model gets a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.
The interior of the Mazda 6 is designed with the concept of ‘human-automotive integration’, focusing on the interaction between the driver and the interior environment. The design creates a smooth line that surrounds the driver, the switches are delicate to the touch, the trim rings on the knobs look very high-class, and the leather wrapping on the centre console extends to the entire area, making it even more luxurious than the Mercedes-Benz C200.
The 8.0-inch display in the centre console has a simple but functional screen design and a dual-zone automatic climate control system in the front.
Engine
The all-new ninth-generation Camry offers two power options, including a 2.5L self-priming and a hybrid powertrain. Among them, the 2.5L engine, as before, is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission, with a maximum power of 201 hp and maximum torque of 240 N-m, and a smooth and linear power output.
Separately, the fifth-generation hybrid powertrain is combined with a 2.5-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine that produces a combined 227 hp and 221 Nm of torque. It is mated to an E-CVT transmission and consumes as little as 4.1L per 100km, achieving the perfect balance of fuel economy and power.
The Mazda 6 mainstream model is equipped with a 2.5L naturally aspirated engine with a maximum power of 190 hp and a peak torque of 252 N-m. The transmission system is matched with an Aisin 6AT gearbox.
Compared to the Camry, the Mazda6 is slightly less powerful in column, but its lightweight body and precise handling make for a driving experience that is still excellent. The Mazda6's engine provides smooth and energetic acceleration, especially at highway speeds.
Safety
As Toyota's flagship sedan, the Camry excels in safety features. It is equipped with Toyota's latest TSS-P (Toyota Safety Sense) safety kit, which includes:
- Pre-Collision System (PCS)
- Lane Departure Alert (LDA)
- Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC)
- Automatic High Beam (AHB)
The Camry is also equipped with eight airbags, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Traction Control (TRAC) and assistance systems such as Reversing Camera and 360-degree Panoramic Camera to ensure the safety of drivers and passengers.
The Mazda6 features a wealth of safety features as well, including the Mazda i-Activsense active safety technology package. The main features are:
- Pre-Collision Safety System (SCBS)
- Lane Keeping Assist (LKA)
- Adaptive Cruise Control (MRCC)
- Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM)
- Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA)
