Cupra continues to expand its model range with the latest addition being the all-new Teramare SUV. This model is poised to stand out in the highly competitive compact SUV segment in Europe with its unique design and multiple powertrain options. The Teramare will offer a variety of power choices, including gasoline, mild hybrid, and plug-in hybrid, all while showcasing a sporty design. The name Teramare is a tribute to the former racetrack Autodrom de Sitges Teramar in Catalonia.
The Cupra Teramare adopts the latest design language from the Spanish automaker, similar to the recently updated Leon and Formentor models. While it shares similarities with the Volkswagen Tiguan in terms of powertrains and platform, the exterior design of the Teramare is unique to Cupra.
One of the standout features of the Teramare's exterior is its aggressive front lights that flank a sharp nose with large air intakes. The LED rear lights connect across the width of the vehicle with a centrally illuminated logo, while the rear bumper is adorned with a fake diffuser. Depending on the trim level, the Teramare rests on 18, 19, or 20-inch alloy wheels.
Inside, the dashboard features a design similar to the Tiguan with numerous Cupra-specific features, making it appear sportier and more distinctive. Technical features include a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.9-inch infotainment system with an illuminated touch slider, a heads-up display, and a 12-speaker audio system from Sennheiser. The standard seats are upholstered in either recycled fabric or a blend of recycled fabric and leather.
The Cupra Teramare is built on the MQB Evo platform, which it shares with models such as the Volkswagen Passat and Tiguan, alongside the Skoda Superb and Kodiaq. Cupra has optimized the setup for sporty driving dynamics, in line with its brand character.
The standard sport suspension sits 10 mm lower than related Skoda and Volkswagen models, with a higher height at the front. Additionally, this SUV features a Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) system, standard progressive steering, an electric brake booster, and available Akebono brakes.
The base eTSI mild hybrid engine is a 1.5-liter unit producing 148 horsepower and transmits power to the front wheels via a 7-speed DSG automatic transmission. The conventional 2.0-liter TSI engine generates either 201 horsepower or 261 horsepower and is paired with the 4Drive all-wheel-drive system.
Additionally, a plug-in hybrid (eHybrid) system is available, producing 201 horsepower and 268 horsepower, respectively. This system offers over 100 kilometers of electric range and supports direct charging of up to 50 kW. Cupra stated that the Teramare was designed and developed in Barcelona, Spain, and the SUV will be manufactured at Audi's plant in Hungary alongside the next-generation Audi Q3. The Teramare is expected to be delivered in early 2025.
