The all-new Audi Q5, one of the best-selling cars from the German automotive brand globally, has undergone a complete transformation to welcome its third generation. As part of the company's shift towards environmentally friendly vehicle manufacturing, the newly developed Q5 Hybrid model will be an essential addition to the new lineup, while the version showcased in Paris is the diesel variant.
Design
The exterior design of the new Audi Q5, while familiar, is strikingly eye-catching, representing a significant evolution of the current design. The high shoulder line of the car flows smoothly from front to rear, giving it a long and powerful stance. The wide single-frame grille dominates the Q5's front, surrounded by vertical air intakes that enhance its aerodynamic performance. The headlights are designed to give the Q5 a sharper appearance.
At the rear, the simple design continues the overall style of the vehicle, with a light strip connecting the taillights and emphasizing the width of the SUV. The S model features dual round exhaust outlets, while other versions have square or rectangular designs. The Q5 offers eleven color options, including Glacier White, Mythos Black, and the new Volcano Grey, with wheel sizes ranging from 19 to 21 inches. The Q5 Hybrid model is expected to undergo minor modifications, mainly focused on the charging section.
Interior
The interior provides a spacious feel, with a fully adjustable rear seat standard in S line versions and above, which can be moved longitudinally and tilted, increasing the trunk capacity to 1,473 liters when folded. The dashboard design is simple and practical, with a wing-like structure that spans the width of the cabin.
One of the highlights is Audi's 'digital stage,' featuring a 14.5-inch MMI touchscreen and an 11.9-inch virtual cockpit. In higher versions such as Edition 1, passengers can enjoy a 10.9-inch MMI screen, allowing them to manage navigation and entertainment without disturbing the driver. Sustainable materials like Cascade fabric and Dinamica microfibre are used for the interior upholstery.
In the rear, although the hollow seat back provides less knee space for taller adults, the panoramic sunroof and ample natural light make the cabin feel open and well-ventilated.
Specifications
Audi has not yet detailed the specifications of the hybrid model, focusing instead on the launched petrol, diesel, and mild hybrid versions. The MHEV plus system features a 48-volt electrical system capable of recovering energy during braking. It comes with an optional adaptive air suspension for a smoother ride and improved handling. In the future, models with plug-in hybrid technology will be expanded.
Audi is likely to offer a 2.0-liter gasoline engine hybrid system, which is also expected to be available in the US. The current version offers a 14.4 kWh (net) battery that provides a range of 62 km in electric-only mode.
