Dodge has officially unveiled the Charger Daytona as its first-ever electric vehicle. Despite the change in the powertrain, it still claims to be the fastest and most powerful muscle car in the world.
The 2024 Dodge Charger will be available in both sedan and coupe versions, each with identical wheelbases, and will be launched in two trims.
The first trim is the Dodge Daytona Scat Pack, producing up to 670 horsepower and expected to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.3 seconds. The other version, the R/T, offers a maximum power of 496 horsepower, capable of reaching 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds. The top speed for the R/T is rated at 220 km/h, while the Scat Pack is slightly slower at 216 km/h. For a quarter mile, the Scat Pack accelerates in 11.5 seconds, while the R/T follows in 13.1 seconds.
In terms of performance, the new Charger is built on the STLA large platform with a 400-volt architecture and features a motor on each axle, offering all-wheel drive with the option to disconnect the front drive unit for improved efficiency. The rear features a mechanical limited-slip differential, with each unit producing 250 kW or 335 horsepower.
This car boasts the largest brakes ever offered on a Dodge, featuring 16-inch Brembo brakes, which are standard on all 2024 models, and will be available as part of a future Track Pack. The front suspension features a multi-link system, while the rear suspension is a fully independent four-link design. The Charger Daytona comes standard with a PowerShot mode, providing an additional 40 horsepower for 15 seconds, activated by a button on the lower right of the steering wheel. The vehicle features five selectable driving modes: Auto, Eco, Sport, Wet/Snow, and Track and Drag.
In terms of design, this vehicle features an updated look that closely resembles its concept version, with a laser-etched Dodge logo on the headlights, and the taillights described as “fire rings” in red. Both front and rear LED light strips feature illuminated logos, and all wheels have a new design. The R/T comes standard with 18-inch Tech Silver wheels, while the Scat Pack receives 20-inch Satin Carbon wheels. A Blacktop package will be introduced later, featuring 20×10-inch Black Noise wheels, while the Track Package will include 20×11 and 20×11.5-inch Luster wheels.
A standard glossy black roof is available, with an option for a full-length glass roof, and various distinctive colors will be offered for the exterior. Inside, the atmosphere is less dramatic than the concept version but still appealing. The new 64-color ambient lighting system plays a significant role here. Other features include a new gear shifter with a unique handle and a specific model logo. Electric vehicles will carry Daytona badges while combustion models will have Charger badges.
The interior features fabric upholstery, as well as available black Nappa leather seats with heating and red Nappa leather. The cabin is spacious and practical. The R/T features a 10.25-inch instrument cluster, while the Scat Pack has a 16-inch free display space. Centrally located is a 12.3-inch touchscreen with the Uconnect 5 infotainment system, including wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The sound system includes nine speakers with 506 watts and a subwoofer from Alpine, while a 914-watt system with 18 speakers is also available across all models.
Regarding range and charging, the Dodge Charger Daytona R/T is expected to have a range of over 510 km, while the faster Scat Pack aims for 418 km. Using a Level 3 DC CCS fast charger, both can charge from 20-80% in just over 27 minutes. At the 350 kW fast charger, the charging rate is about 9.9 miles per minute for the R/T and around 8.1 miles per minute for the Scat Pack.
Stellantis has also announced the combustion versions of the Charger, revealing their power outputs. Although no photos have been provided, the R-Wing model will be exclusive to the electric Daytona models, making it easy to distinguish between them. Two combustion engine models will be offered, each powered by a 3.0-liter six-cylinder Hurricane engine. The Dodge Charger SIXPACK HO will provide 550 horsepower, while the SIXPACK SO will offer a maximum power of 420 horsepower.
Dodge states that the coupe versions of the electric Charger will enter production in mid this year, while the four-door models will do so in the first quarter of 2025.
