Smart continues to evolve, unveiling the new crossover #5, marking a significant departure from the old Fortwo. This all-new model is a mid-size luxury SUV with a high-tech interior design.
The crossover is set to arrive in Europe early next year, featuring a distinctive appearance with "rectangular headlights" linked by a thin illuminated strip, along with a series of oval-shaped lights. The rear features plastic body cladding and a streamlined structure.
Designers have given the model integrated door handles and dynamically optimized wheels, with design touches reminiscent of Rolls Royce. Additionally, the seats can fold down to provide varying sleeping space in the cabin. Buyers will also find 34 storage compartments, a front trunk, and a spacious cargo area that can accommodate up to 1530 liters of luggage.
While Smart has not revealed many details about the powertrain, it has confirmed that the model features a 100 kWh battery that provides over 740 km of range on the CLTC cycle. The company also revealed that the crossover includes 800-volt technology along with ultra-fast charging capabilities, allowing the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in just 15 minutes.
The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China previously disclosed that the crossover will feature a rear-mounted motor with 335 horsepower and 358 horsepower. There will also be dual-motor all-wheel-drive systems with a front-mounted motor producing 221 horsepower alongside a rear motor with either 358 or 416 horsepower.
