Skoda has launched an armored version of the first generation Kodiaq, developed by Skoda UK in collaboration with UTAC Special Vehicles experts, featuring numerous upgrades. Notably, this armored version is based on the updated first generation Kodiaq rather than the new generation model that debuted last year. The exterior changes are limited to the illuminated front grille, bumper, and rear door, with the aim of making it look as close to the production model as possible.
Inside, the 8-inch touchscreen has been transformed into a "communication center" with GPS and dedicated controls for emergency lights and siren systems. More importantly, the armored Skoda Kodiaq features bullet-resistant glass and significant modifications to the passenger compartment with the addition of steel armor.
Skoda engineers have also developed an upgraded suspension and braking system, ensuring that this heavier vehicle retains the driving capability and agility of the standard version. Additionally, all four wheels are equipped with a special tire safety system. There are no modifications to the engine, and customers can choose from “a range of powertrain options,” including a 4×4 version.
Skoda states that the modified Kodiaq offers bullet resistance to “various handguns and assault rifles” and blast resistance to “grenades and high explosives.” It has been designed to meet the requirements and standards of PAS 300 and PAS 301 for civil armored vehicles. These standards required rigorous testing in load, acceleration, top speed, handling, and braking. The SUV has been subjected to over 200 rounds of ammunition and has proven its blast resistance on the sides, roof, and underfloor.
Since its debut in 2018, the company has sold nearly 500 units of the armored Superb, demonstrating a market for Skoda's bulletproof vehicles.
