The traffic department of Saudi Arabia proudly announced that their efforts not only raised traffic safety awareness but also reduced the death toll from road accidents by 50%. This achievement is attributed to a series of projects and initiatives under the "Vision 2030" aimed at enhancing societal and driver awareness of traffic safety.
According to the traffic department, the death rate from traffic accidents has decreased from 28.8 per 100,000 people in 2016 to 13 per 100,000 in 2023. This significant decline is the result of the efforts made by the Ministry of Interior, as well as the collaboration between regional traffic safety committees and both governmental and private sectors.
Moreover, the Ministry of Interior identified 20 of the most dangerous external roads and set performance indicators, which contributed to a 25.9% reduction in fatalities during the first nine months of 2024 compared to 2023.
The coverage of security patrols on external roads around the clock, along with the activation of electronic monitoring systems, has led to a response time of no more than 10 minutes. The Ministry of Interior continues to enhance traffic safety, utilizing over 11 security management centers to cover more than 1,100 kilometers of roads with personnel and vehicles equipped with modern technology during the first nine months of 2024.
