The Ministry of Commerce in Saudi Arabia has unveiled some rights available to car owners when they carry out periodic maintenance or repairs. The department stated that there are specific rights concerning spare parts, particularly regarding the handling of old parts.
Owners of old vehicles have the right to receive old spare parts if they are not harmful to the environment. Additionally, they can only inspect the replaced part if it was replaced under warranty and was not paid for.
If certain defects reoccur in a vehicle covered by warranty, consumers have the right to receive the same class and specifications of vehicle or at least the equivalent value at the time of purchase if the dealer fails to fix the recurring defect. A fair deduction for depreciation will be applied under the following conditions:
– If the consumer could not benefit from the vehicle due to the defect and this affects its value and safety of use.
– The dealer's failure to fix the same defect.
– If the repair took more than 25 days, excluding the time to obtain spare parts.
Regarding rights when purchasing new cars, the Ministry of Commerce stated that they include:
– The right to receive a warranty booklet and instructions for the vehicle in Arabic.
– The presence of a fuel economy card.
– The buyer has the right to receive an invoice in Arabic upon purchase.
Moreover, buyers must read the vehicle acceptance document and ensure its content matches the specifications before signing it.
