The Saudi Arabian Cabinet recently announced an important update to the traffic law, abolishing Article 71 and adding a new clause to address penalties for driving with an expired license. This change aims to improve road safety, reduce violations, and lower the number of traffic accidents.

The decision was made during a Cabinet session chaired by King Salman bin Abdulaziz in Riyadh, where several topics, including traffic regulations, were discussed. Previously, Article 71 imposed a fine of 100 Saudi Riyals for each year, or part of a year, that a driver's license remained expired. The maximum fine was capped at 300 Saudi Riyals, provided the violation occurred within 60 days of the license's expiration.
