The Chinese company BYD has attracted a lot of attention in the past few years, expanding in the markets and tackling its competitors’ sales, thanks to its focus on innovation and technology. One of the competitors that BYD has been a threat to is Tesla, the sales of which has been decreasing, and one of the main factors is BYD’s outperformance. And while Elon Musk’s politicking has been affecting it’s electric cars brand as well, BYD has announced it’s new vehicle that can be charged in only 5 minutes, while Tesla stays behind. What does Tesla have and BYD doesn’t? Nothing. BYD has its luxury and also mid-range vehicles. Tesla originally used BYD’s battery. Autonomous driving? BYD is already way ahead with it. Pricewise? BYD is much more competitive.
BYD’s Battery Technology
BYD is known to be one of the best battery manufacturers in the world. Its latest achievement is introducing a platform that can charge 470 km of range in just 5 minutes. BYD is trusted because its battery technology is safe, resistant to thermal runaways, and overheating. BYD’s Blade Battery can also withstand a nail puncture without catching fire or exploding, a test that most conventional lithium-ion batteries fail. This means that the battery can endure extreme conditions.
BYD Makes Its Own Parts
Another success factor is vertical integration. BYD makes most of the parts it puts in its vehicles, meaning the company has its eye on the quality used to produce the cars. This helps the company make more affordable vehicles thanks to decreasing firms’ cost base and also ensures high quality.
AI-Driven Autonomous Driving Technology
BYD has been going insane with its innovations and collaborations. One of the latest achievements is the world’s first vehicle-mounted drone system, in collaboration with DJI. Add to that its investment, along with other Chinese manufacturers, in integrating DeekSeek AI to enhance its driving system. Additionally, BYD is known for the God’s Eye system, an ADAS system that is supported with AI. It comes with Level-2 autonomous features and is available in all cars under the BYD name as standard. BYD provides this safety feature, which is divided into three levels, A,B, and C, and the level depends on the model.
The top model Yangwang U8 for example, gets the Level-A, supported with three LiDAR sensors that give the vehicles 360-degree of panoramic coverage. However, European automakers sell electric vehicles for a much higher price and the features cost a fortune.
