Nissan is actively pursuing an exciting new project, planning to showcase a brand new SUV concept car inspired by the classic Xterra models in 2025. Recently, a mysterious teaser video was released on social media, dubbed "Project X", suggesting that this is a "top-secret" construction plan. Notably, the new Xterra may share its platform with the Nissan Frontier. Despite facing numerous challenges this year, Nissan's pursuit of innovation remains undeterred. The company has teamed up with content creators to create a modern reimagining of the Xterra, with plans to officially launch the project at next year's SEMA show. This early announcement aims to generate anticipation and document progress over the next 11 months.
The project is described by anonymous sources as a "design study" exploring how a modern Xterra could look, incorporating contemporary design elements and an updated transmission. The so-called "Project X" has already been promoted on Instagram by video creator, Nissan enthusiast, and Nismo ambassador Nick Raymond. It is said that this project will unveil stunning results over the next 11 months, becoming a dream project for all Nissan fans and enticing more people to desire this version. Although this concept car is still far from production, it clearly indicates that Nissan has not abandoned the idea of launching an SUV that competes with trucks like the Toyota 4Runner.
Nissan offered two generations of the Xterra in the U.S. from 1999 to 2015, but ceased production without a direct successor. In 2018, the company launched the Terra SUV in select international markets, which was later rebranded as the Xterra in the Middle East, although it was not intended for the North American market.
