In the United States, the updated Frontier truck has recently hit the market, but it seems that loyal fans of the Nissan Navara have been overlooked since 2014. However, this situation is about to change. Recently, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology in China revealed this nearly all-new midsize truck, temporarily named Yuanye Z9. It remains unclear whether this truck will be exclusive to the Chinese market or will be launched globally.
The new truck looks like a futuristic version of the BYD Shark, featuring a boxier design with sharp lines and simple curves. A large grille dominates the front, complemented by vertical headlights. The bottom has a black plastic bumper and a silver skid plate, with plastic cladding and black A-pillars on the sides.
Inside, the double cab comes with side steps and sporty touches, a panoramic sunroof, and a roof cover, enhancing the spacious feel. The rear features vertical taillights and large reflectors above the protection plate, along with a muscular rear bumper that facilitates access to the truck bed.
In terms of dimensions, the truck measures 5,520 mm in length, 1,960 mm in width, and 1,950 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,300 mm. This makes it significantly larger than the Navara SL double cab available in Australia, which is 5,260 mm long, 1,850 mm wide, and 1,810 mm high. Notably, this model is 200 mm longer than the Mitsubishi Triton, with a 170 mm longer wheelbase. This substantial difference indicates that the two models are not directly related, despite both being part of the same alliance.
Under the hood, there is a 2.0-liter gasoline engine that seems to produce 244 horsepower and 255 Nm of torque, allowing this model to reach a top speed of 160 km/h. Customers in China will also be able to opt for a 3.0-liter diesel engine generating 188 horsepower. Although it is less powerful, this version boasts a higher top speed of 170 km/h. Furthermore, Chinese officials from Nissan had previously confirmed that the upcoming pickup will also offer a hybrid version capable of charging in the future.
