Recently, the traffic authorities in Saudi Arabia announced that car owners can enjoy a new policy for reducing traffic violation fines through various means.
According to the announcement, owners can opt to pay all accumulated fines in one lump sum before April 18, 2024, or choose to settle each fine individually.
This move responds to public inquiries regarding the possibility of making a single payment versus separate payments. Furthermore, the traffic authorities have set a deadline of April 18, 2025, for benefiting from this extension. All violators, including citizens, residents, tourists, and citizens of Gulf Cooperation Council countries, can take advantage of this policy, covering all violations recorded under traffic laws.
The traffic department also noted that not all situations qualify for a 25% reduction in fines, as per Article 75 of the Saudi traffic law. Key situations include exceeding the 30-day objection period and failing to pay within the initial 15-day grace period.
The second case where the reduction is not applicable is if an additional 90-day payment extension was requested but the first 30 days elapsed without payment. According to Article 75 of the Saudi traffic law, from April 18, 2024, traffic violation fines will be reduced according to the stipulated procedures.
A 25% reduction applies immediately upon recording the violation, while a minimum of 15% applies to minor violations. Additionally, measures for the seizure and enforcement of the actual fine will take effect after the specified payment deadlines.
The traffic department also clarified that fines can be settled through bank payment services or platforms without the need for any application. Prior to April 18, 2024, fines can be paid at a 50% reduction rate through these various channels until October 18, 2024, without any additional application required.
