Rugged SUVs are gaining widespread attention in the GCC markets, especially those combining premium design with advanced smart driving capabilities and performance. In this context, recent spy shots have revealed development details of a new version of the Tank 500. As one of the prominent models from the Chinese brand in the luxury off road segment, this version features exterior updates and notable advancements in interior design and smart technologies.
Exterior Changes Reflect Development Spirit
The front end of the new Tank 500 has undergone some modifications, giving it a sleeker and more contemporary appearance. The company redesigned the multi slat front grille with a cleaner layout featuring parallel slats while retaining the headlights and bumper from the previous model.
A standout feature of the upcoming version is a roof mounted lidar sensor, aimed at supporting advanced autonomous driving functions. In terms of dimensions, the vehicle is expected to retain its current measurements: over 5 meters in length, 1934 mm in width, 1905 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2850 mm.
Varied Powertrains and Modern Equipment Enhance Comfort
Inside, the updated Tank 500 introduces several notable refinements, including a newly designed two spoke steering wheel inspired by the 2025 Tank 300 and an electronic gear selector integrated into a side mounted column. This layout improves cabin ergonomics and frees up space in the center console for added practicality. Control buttons on the dashboard have also been rearranged to mirror the streamlined layout introduced, enhancing usability and modern appeal.
The new model is expected to retain the current powertrain lineup, including a 3.0 liter V6 turbocharged engine delivering up to 265 kW (approximately 360 hp) and 500 Nm of torque, paired with a 9 speed automatic transmission. Plug in hybrid variants are also expected to be offered, such as the Hi4-T version, which combines a 2.0 liter turbocharged engine with an electric motor for a total output of 305 kW and up to 400 Nm of torque, with an electric only range of up to 110 km. The Hi4-Z variant delivers higher performance, offering a substantial combined torque output of 815 Nm and an extended electric range reaching up to 201 km.
Tank 500 Confidently Competes Against Major Names
Recent sales figures reveal a strong presence for the Tank 500 series, recording 2,909 units sold in February, reflecting growing demand among SUV enthusiasts. This vehicle’s bold design and commanding road presence position it directly against models like the Fangchengbao BAO8, starting at the equivalent of around $37,980 (139,446 AED), and the Toyota Prado China spec version offered by FAW, priced from approximately $44,980 (165,086 AED).
With the official unveiling of its new generation just around the corner, the Tank 500 appears poised to strengthen its foothold in Gulf markets, thanks to its refined combination of luxury, advanced technology, and proven off road capability across demanding terrains.
