Mitsubishi has unveiled plans to launch two new SUVs this year, one of which—Grandis—will make its debut in July. Initially targeting the European market, the Grandis is set to go on sale in the fall and winter of 2025, with the possibility of expanding to other regions in the future.
Even before its official launch, the Grandis has already generated excitement. Reviving the classic Grandis name, this new model promises a family-friendly design and the option of an electric powertrain, offering more choices for consumers.
The name Grandis is well known among Mitsubishi enthusiasts. The original Grandis, sold between 2003 and 2011, was a spacious, seven-seat MPV that gained popularity for its practicality and comfort. In Latin, "Grandis" means "big" and "impressive"—a legacy that Mitsubishi aims to carry forward with the new SUV.
For this new generation, the Grandis will be based on Renault’s Symbioz compact SUV, positioning it as a versatile vehicle for young families. Essentially, it will be a more spacious and practical version of the Mitsubishi ASX, which itself shares its platform with the Renault Captur.

Design and Features
Exterior
Mitsubishi has only released teaser images so far, but they offer a glimpse of what’s to come. The Grandis will feature a redesigned grille and Mitsubishi’s signature Dynamic Shield front fascia, setting it apart from its Renault counterpart.
While the Grandis will share much of its exterior and interior with the Renault Symbioz—which measures 4,413 mm in length—it won’t be an exact copy. Unique design elements will give it a distinct Mitsubishi identity.
Interior
Mitsubishi describes the Grandis’ interior as "spacious and versatile." Drawing from the Renault Symbioz, it will offer a trunk capacity ranging from 492 to 624 liters. Thanks to sliding rear seats, it will provide flexible space for daily errands and long road trips alike.
The Grandis will also come well-equipped with modern features, including a full suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and a 10.4-inch infotainment system with built-in Google integration, making driving smarter and more convenient.
Powertrain
One of the biggest highlights of the Grandis is its powertrain. Built on the CMF-B platform—shared with the Mitsubishi Colt and ASX, Renault Clio, Captur, Symbioz, and Arkana, as well as the Nissan Micra, Juke, and Dacia models—it will offer both mild-hybrid and full-hybrid options.
These Renault-developed hybrid powertrains will deliver a balance of performance and fuel efficiency while keeping emissions low to meet European environmental standards.
Launch and Future Plans
Mitsubishi has confirmed that the Grandis will officially debut in July, with sales beginning in Europe by late fall 2025. Once launched, it will compete in the growing compact SUV segment.
Beyond the Grandis, Mitsubishi is also preparing an all-electric compact SUV, expected to be its version of the Renault Scenic E-Tech. This EV is slated for release later in 2025. With these two new models, Mitsubishi aims to expand its European lineup and strengthen its position in the market.
