Mercedes-Maybach is quietly working on a refreshed version of the S-Class, expected to debut in 2026. This model will join the regular S-Class lineup and the GLS SUV. While the prototype's front fascia is camouflaged, we can clearly see the new headlamps equipped with LED three-point units shining with a glimpse of the future. Additionally, a larger grille featuring a unique Maybach design style and more attractive front bumper air intakes are anticipated. From the side, the silhouette of the Maybach S-Class appears largely unchanged, save for the sleeker mirror covers that house new cameras underneath, indicating a comprehensive upgrade to its ADAS system, with redesigned sensors on the windshield. Rear changes are likely limited to new LED tail lights and a slightly modified rear bumper, while the dual exhaust outlets remain a hallmark of the current model's engine lineup.
While spy photographers did not get a glimpse of the interior this time, it is rumored that both the Mercedes and Maybach versions of the S-Class will feature a redesigned dashboard with a massive display, bringing them closer in technology to the fully electric EQS.
No details are available regarding the powertrain, which is expected to carry over from the previous model with slight improvements. Currently, the model offers a 3.0-liter six-cylinder hybrid (S580e), a 4.0-liter V8 (S580), a 6.0-liter V12 (S680), and a light hybrid six-cylinder variant tailored for China (S480). The current generation of the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class debuted four years ago, competing against the Rolls-Royce Ghost and Bentley Flying Spur. The luxury sedan is 281 mm longer than the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, measuring 5460 mm in total length. Besides the different logos, bumpers, and grilles, the most notable way to differentiate them is the more opulent interior of the Maybach, which features an additional window.
The updated S-Class family is expected to arrive next year as the 2026 model. The next generation of the flagship sedan is reportedly already in development, but it is not expected to be unveiled before 2030.
