Mercedes-Benz's G-Class vehicles are renowned for their exceptional durability and reliability, even though German cars are often perceived as less reliable due to complex designs and high maintenance costs. According to Mercedes, 80% of G-Class vehicles are still on the road since their launch, demonstrating the longevity of this model.
Speaking about the prospects of the new electric G-Class, Michael Schiebe, CEO of AMG, stated that the electric version will keep pace with gasoline models in terms of service life. During a roundtable discussion in France, he told reporters: “80% of all G-Class vehicles ever produced are still in the market.” He emphasized: “These cars have a very long life span.”
Mercedes manufactured the 500,000th G-Class vehicle in 2023, indicating that over 400,000 are still on the road today. In comparison, Porsche states that only about 70% of the 911 models produced are still operational.
Although Schiebe did not disclose the expected market share for the electric G580 model, he expressed optimism about dealer and customer satisfaction. He said: “We strive to be a customer-focused company.” He added: “We want to provide what customers want. If they request V-8 engines, our mission is to offer very efficient and powerful V-8 engines.”
Schiebe pointed out: “Our customers really love the V-8 engine. They will love the V-8 in the G-Class forever.” Thus, they can continue with the G63. At the same time, we also offer the G550 six-cylinder model for customers looking for high-performance and efficient combustion engines. It is more efficient and dynamic than its V-8 predecessor. We also have the electric version for those who love the G-Class look but say they no longer want to drive a combustion engine vehicle.
