When Mazda unveiled the EZ-6 sedan at the Beijing Auto Show, many details remained shrouded in mystery. However, these gaps are now being filled as Mazda releases detailed information about pricing, features, and specifications. The EZ-6 is classified as a 'new stylish, smart, and enjoyable electric vehicle,' boasting a sleek Kobo design with a wide front grille flanked by LED headlights. The car also features frameless doors with discreetly mounted handles.
Other notable features include a panoramic glass roof and aerodynamically optimized 19-inch wheels. Buyers will also appreciate rain-sensing windshield wipers and small rear lights connected by a slim illuminated strip. The higher trims go even further, offering an active rear spoiler and an electric tailgate. Mazda has also mentioned the availability of external voice command functionality for opening the tailgate.
In terms of size, the total length of the EZ-6 is 4921 mm, with a wheelbase of 2895 mm. To put this into perspective, the model is 5 mm longer than the Toyota Camry, adding 71 mm more between the wheels.
Inside, the cabin features a minimalist layout with a 10.1-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.6-inch infotainment system. Buyers can also opt for leather or Nappa leather seats, with a steering wheel made of the same materials. Key features include dual-zone automatic climate control, a six-speaker sound system, and a 50-watt wireless phone charger.
The higher trims are even more luxurious, featuring a heated steering wheel along with heated and ventilated front seats. Customers will also find a 64-color ambient lighting system and a premium 14-speaker sound system from Sony.
Initially, Mazda stated that the EZ-6 would be offered with chargeable hybrid and electric motors; however, the model actually comes with both electric and extended-range options. The electric vehicle features a rear-mounted motor producing 255 horsepower and 320 Nm of torque. It operates on either a 56.1 or 68.8 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, with the former offering a CLTC range of 480 km, while the latter exceeds 600 km.
The extended-range version takes a different direction, featuring a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 94 horsepower to charge the battery, and an electric motor producing 215 horsepower and 320 Nm of torque that drives the rear wheels. Customers will also find an 18.9 or 28.4 kWh battery.
The smaller battery provides only 105 km of electric range, while the larger unit extends the distance to 160 km. More importantly, thanks to the engine, the total range exceeds 1300 km. Pricing starts at 139,800 yen, approximately 19,600 dollars for the extended-range version, while the electric version starts at 159,800 yen or 22,427 dollars.
