Mazda has officially introduced a brand new electric SUV prototype called "Arata" at the Beijing Auto Show, alongside its first electric sedan, the EZ-6, which will replace the Mazda 6 in the Chinese market.
The new SUV, named Arata, is set to enter production and be marketed in China before the year's end.
Collaboration with Changan
Similar to the aforementioned sedan, Mazda collaborated with Changan to develop this electric SUV. The name may change upon its market release. It appears that the SUV shares the same platform and many mechanical components with Changan's existing electric SUV, the Deepal S7, but incorporates exclusive aesthetic and technical updates from Mazda to enhance its competitive edge.
The vehicle showcases a design language similar to Mazda's latest models, featuring cameras instead of traditional side mirrors, as it is a prototype, along with the absence of standard door handles and rear window wipers—elements expected to change in the final production model.
Mazda has kept technical specifications and pricing details under wraps, and we will provide more information as it becomes available.
