LUCID Group officially opened its first car manufacturing facility in Saudi Arabia yesterday, marking the first of its kind in the country's history. The new factory, named (AMP-2), is LUCID's second factory globally and its first international facility. This factory will focus on producing electric vehicles for the Saudi market and plans to export them to other markets.
Inauguration of AMP-2 Facility
The inauguration of the AMP-2 facility took place at a high-profile event attended by VIPs, including Yasir Al-Rumayyan, the head of the Saudi Public Investment Fund; Turki Al-Nuwaiser, Chairman of LUCID Group; Peter Rawlinson, CEO and CTO of LUCID Group; and Faisal Sultan, VP and General Manager of LUCID in the Middle East, along with ministers and senior officials from various organizations.
At this event, several LUCID Air vehicles were delivered to select customers. The facility received significant support from the Saudi Ministry of Investment (MISA), the Saudi Industrial Development Fund (SIDF), and King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC). The factory will play a crucial role in accelerating the achievement of Saudi Arabia's strategic goals for economic diversification. By developing electric transportation, LUCID supports Saudi green initiatives to ensure that 30% of new car sales in the Kingdom are electric by 2030.
Making History in Saudi Arabia
Peter Rawlinson stated, “We are thrilled to make history today in Saudi Arabia by opening the country's first car manufacturing facility. This will allow us to produce our award-winning electric vehicles and support the country's vision for a more sustainable and diversified economy.” He added, “As Saudi Arabia moves towards its 2030 vision, our facility will pave the way for the electric vehicle industry in the country and expand the supply chain. With the support of the Saudi government, we are proud to lead the development of local talent in the tech industry. We look forward to delivering vehicles assembled in Saudi Arabia to customers both within and outside the Kingdom.”
The AMP-2 facility has commenced SKD assembly and is expected to reach an annual capacity of 5,000 vehicles. The initial process involves reassembling LUCID Air vehicles that were previously manufactured at the company’s AMP-1 manufacturing facility in Casa Grande, Arizona. LUCID aims to transform AMP-2 to complete the production of CBU units by the middle of this decade, with an additional annual capacity of 150,000 vehicles.
The AMP-2 program will be a driving force for innovation and job creation, supporting local Saudi talent and providing training for specialized skill development. Through an agreement with the Human Resources Development Fund (HRDF), LUCID expects to employ hundreds of Saudi citizens in the first few years.
The strategic location of the factory near Jeddah will serve as a catalyst for further growth and expansion of the newly established local supply chain. This will create demand for local suppliers and enhance long-term growth. Jeddah's location on the Red Sea coast already provides strong access to the supply chain by land and sea. It will also enable LUCID to export its luxury electric vehicles to other regions in the future.
