Lancia Aims to Regain its European Glory with the New Electric Model

Lancia is a historic Italian brand known for its sporty vehicles and iconic race cars that are still sought after by collectors of rare and classic cars in Europe. It holds the title of the most successful car brand in the history of the World Rally Championship, despite having ceased participation since 1992.

In recent years, Lancia has struggled to maintain its presence in the European market, with sales primarily limited to Italy, where it has released several successful models that do not reflect the exciting legacy of the brand.

Now, Lancia is striving to rejuvenate its image and boost sales with the introduction of its first electric car, named “Epsilon.” This marks the first new vehicle launch by Lancia in 13 years, with plans for hybrid versions featuring gasoline engines to follow.

The current focus is on the electric version of the Epsilon model, which shares the same eCMP platform with the Peugeot 208 electric vehicle, but features a completely different design both inside and out.

What Sets the New Lancia Epsilon Apart?

Lancia has stated that the design of the front and rear lights is inspired by the brand's classic rally cars. The company has made a significant effort to distinguish the car from its competitors, noting that this is a more exciting special edition of the vehicle developed in collaboration with the Italian furniture manufacturer Cassina, suggesting that standard versions may differ slightly in certain design aspects.

The interior features a dual-screen system common in many modern cars today, including a 10.25-inch display for the infotainment system and instrument cluster. Lancia has opted to retain traditional buttons for controlling some vehicle functions, such as climate settings, alongside wireless charging for mobile devices and compatibility with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

Electric System and Performance Numbers

The new Lancia Epsilon is powered by a front electric motor producing 154 horsepower and 260 Nm of torque, mirroring the specifications of the electric Peugeot 208. The vehicle's battery supports an electric range of 403 kilometers per charge, with plans for a hybrid version to be introduced later.

Lancia intends to launch the new Epsilon in European markets by mid-2024 and plans to introduce several other electric models throughout the decade, including a luxury vehicle named “Gamma” set to debut in 2026.
