Hyundai Motor has celebrated an important achievement, reaching a total global cumulative production of 100 million units. This milestone was achieved just 57 years after the company was founded, making it one of the fastest-growing companies in the global automotive industry. To honor this achievement, Hyundai Motor held a celebration at its Ulsan plant in South Korea.
During a special delivery ceremony, the company handed over its 100 millionth vehicle, which was the all-new IONIQ 5, directly to a customer. The car rolled off the final production line for inspection at the Ulsan plant during the delivery event. The event also included a celebratory display commemorating “100 million plus 1,” symbolizing Hyundai Motor's commitment to moving forward based on its past achievements.
Reaching the global cumulative production of 100 million vehicles is a significant milestone made possible by the support and choice of customers around the world. The company stated that facing challenges and continuously striving for innovation has enabled it to achieve rapid growth and will allow it to take “one step forward” towards the next 100 million units as a game-changer in mobility.
The Ulsan plant, which started operations in 1968, holds significant historical importance as the “cradle of the Korean automotive industry.” Notably, the plant produced the first independently developed mass-produced model in Korea, the Pony, in 1975. Currently, the Ulsan plant is a center for electric and hybrid vehicles, and the company is establishing dedicated electric vehicle facilities on-site.
This historic achievement follows Hyundai Motor's continuous growth, fueled by the launch of the luxury brand Genesis, the high-performance N brand, and the introduction of electric vehicles like the IONIQ 5. The company's global footprint has expanded with production facilities in Turkey, India, the United States, and the Czech Republic, contributing to record achievements including surpassing 50 million vehicles produced in 2013.
Last year, Hyundai Motor capitalized on this momentum by establishing the Hyundai Motor Global Innovation Center in Singapore (HMGICS). The center is set to introduce innovative manufacturing platforms and advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence, robotics, and smart factories.
