Tesla is moving forward with its largest battery project in its 21 years of existence, with plans to introduce four new 4680 batteries in 2026, according to related media reports.
The four batteries will power the Cybertruck, an electric truck, the Robotaxi, a driverless taxi, and other electric vehicles.
The Model 4680 battery was proposed by Tesla in September 2020 to create a battery with increased energy density and reduced cost.
Tesla reportedly plans to achieve mass production of the 4680D in the second quarter of 2025 and launch four dry-cathode 4680 D successor versions of the battery in 2026; the battery codenamed NC20 will be used in SUVs, Cybertrucks and other models, while the NC30 and NC50 will be the first batteries from Tesla to use silicon-carbon materials in the anode.
These batteries will be used in different models for different types of vehicles.
