Ford Maverick 2025 is almost a new model, but the company has still introduced a new update for the vehicle. The new Ford Maverick Lobo is the most sporty version of the compact truck to date, benefiting from several exterior and structural updates.
Ford stated that the Maverick Lobo is inspired by street trucks produced from the mid-1980s to the early 2000s. The idea began in 2019 by Ford designer Josh Plando and later developed into a production version showcased at SEMA by Tucci Hot Rods in 2021.
The production version of Maverick Lobo looks bold and wild, largely thanks to the black 19-inch Turbofan wheels. Other features include a sporty front fascia, body-colored side steps, and rear bumper. The only thing missing from the vehicle is a set of wide fenders like those found on the Ford Ranger MS-RT. The truck is available in Velocchi Blue, Carbon Metallic Gray, Oxford White, and Shadow Black.
Inside, the Maverick Lobo takes its design cues from streetwear. The leather-covered seats feature graffiti-inspired prints, with Lobo lettering embossed on the seat backs and stitching in electric green and bright blue.
The Ford Maverick Lobo is equipped with a 2.0-liter EcoBoost turbocharged engine, producing the same output as before at 238 horsepower and 373 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a 7-speed automatic transmission, sending power to all four wheels through an all-wheel-drive system. Ford has also added a larger radiator and fan for improved cooling, along with a transmission oil cooler.
Despite lacking any increase in power, the Maverick Lobo features a modified chassis, promising a truck that delivers higher performance. Compared to the standard Maverick model, the front suspension has been lowered by 0.5 inches (about 13 mm) and the rear suspension by 1.12 inches (about 29 mm), with specially tuned shock absorbers. As a result, the overall height has been reduced by 0.8 inches (about 20 mm).
The steering settings have also been reworked, and a torque vectoring system has been added through a dual-clutch rear drive unit. Braking power has been enhanced with larger brakes from the European-spec Ford Focus ST.
Finally, there’s a new drive mode for the Lobo, which is said to improve cornering performance, road grip, and stability, helping to reduce oversteering. However, Ford states that this mode should be used on closed tracks, as it unleashes the full torque potential and reduces stability control intervention.
Ford has already started accepting reservations for the Maverick Lobo, with the first deliveries expected in early 2025. Prices start at $42,090 according to the specifications configurator on their website, but there may be lower-priced versions available.
