Chery Automobile is gearing up to introduce an all-new pickup truck, which was spotted during a promotional event, likely outside of China. This truck is internally coded as KP11, and while its model name has not yet been officially announced, market anticipation is high.
The pickup is expected to offer a variety of powertrain options, including gasoline, plug-in hybrid (PHEV), and extended-range electric (EREV) configurations.
The truck features an eye-catching front design with a large grille adorned with a prominent Chery emblem. The split headlight design is also unique, with daytime running lights positioned on top and a distinctive double L-shaped light arrangement that is hard to forget.
The vehicle adopts a double cab design and comes with traditional door handles, while black cladding extends around the sides of the truck. The version that was spied at the event is equipped with a hardtop for the cargo area, which also features an extendable camping canopy, showcasing its practicality.
The taillight design is impressive, extending into the side of the cargo bed and reaching deeper than one might expect. Additionally, there is a step at the bottom of the cargo bed, and the tailgate prominently displays the Chery name.
This Chery pickup is expected to be similar in size to the Ford Ranger. While specific details about the engine remain unclear, rumors suggest that the gasoline version may utilize a 2.4-liter engine, with PHEV or EREV versions also rumored to be available.
Last year, Chery collaborated with ZX Auto to develop a mini pickup. The KP11 is believed to be based on the ZX Weishi model, launched in 2021. ZX Auto is relatively unknown in China for producing pickup trucks, having gained brief notoriety during the Libya war when its pickups were modified to mount machine guns.
It is likely that Chery's new pickup will initially be launched overseas, similar to BYD's strategy. While it is unclear where the KP11 was spotted, the license plate is in English, suggesting it was at an event outside of China. Sales are expected to commence in 2025.
