In the face of growing global automotive competition, Chery Group has reinforced its position as one of China's most successful car manufacturers, sustaining its growth momentum and expanding its international footprint. The group released its sales results for March and the first quarter of 2025, highlighting strong overall performance, robust exports, and exceptional gains in the new energy vehicle (NEV) segment.
March Sees Sharp Rise in Chery's NEV Sales
In March, Chery Group sold 214,770 vehicles, reflecting an 18.3% increase over the same period last year. Of this, Chery Automobile contributed 197,614 units, achieving a year on year growth of 10.9%. The NEV segment saw a particularly strong surge, with 62,210 electric and hybrid vehicles sold, an impressive 125.4% increase compared to March 2024.
Chery also cemented its lead as China’s top car exporter, delivering 86,414 vehicles overseas in March, up 2.7% year over year. These results underscore the group's resilience and continued success in penetrating foreign markets despite global economic uncertainties.
Historic Q1 Sales Reflect Chery's Global Momentum
Chery set a new quarterly sales record with 620,025 vehicles sold in Q1 2025, marking a 17.1% year over year growth. Chery Automobile accounted for 590,533 of these sales, up 18.8% from Q1 2024. NEV sales climbed to 163,458 units, representing a dramatic 171.8% surge over the same quarter last year.
The group maintained its dominance in exports as well, shipping 255,465 vehicles abroad in the first quarter. By the end of March, Chery’s global user base surpassed 16.3 million, including more than 4.7 million users outside of China, a clear reflection of its rising international appeal.
Brand Diversity and Global Collaboration Drive Growth
Chery’s various brands posted strong sales in March: the main Chery brand recorded 118,955 units, Jetour sold 54,020, Exeed 7,618, iCAR 7,016, and Luxeed 10,005. These numbers highlight the group's strength across multiple segments, from entry level to premium EVs.
A key highlight in the quarter was Chery’s partnership with Spanish automaker Ebro. This collaboration revived the Ebro brand by combining Chery’s cutting edge technology with local manufacturing in Spain, leading to job creation and a boost to the regional automotive industry.
At the model level, the Chery Tiggo 5x celebrated a major milestone by surpassing one million units sold internationally. This achievement places it alongside the Tiggo 7 in Chery’s prestigious “million export club,” affirming the global appeal of its compact crossover SUVs.
Looking ahead, Chery Group is preparing for an initial public offering in 2025, a strategic move to fuel future expansion, attract investment, and further solidify its position as a global automotive powerhouse.
