In 2026, the F1 racing stage will welcome a new competitor—Cadillac in partnership with General Motors. This exhilarating news marks their long-awaited entry into the elite ranks of global motorsport.

Cadillac Officially Joins F1 in 2026

As early as 2023, Cadillac applied to join F1 through the Andretti team, but their initial proposal was rejected in January, with F1 management expressing doubts about the team’s competitiveness.

However, Andretti and General Motors did not lose heart; instead, they ramped up their investment in the F1 project, ultimately securing a preliminary agreement with F1, especially for the upcoming Las Vegas Grand Prix. Although the new Cadillac team will no longer carry the Andretti name, legendary driver Mario Andretti will continue to play a significant role on the team’s board. Meanwhile, General Motors' key partner, TWG Global, is playing a pivotal role in the project, further linking it to Andretti Global, the parent company of Mario Andretti's racing empire. This announcement comes at a time of significant power shifts within Liberty Media, the parent company of F1.

The outgoing CEO, John Malone, was a key figure who rejected Andretti's original proposal, firmly stating he would do everything possible to prevent Michael Andretti from entering F1. With Malone set to step down, the future landscape is one to watch. In the 2026 and 2027 seasons, General Motors will use non-owned engines until launching their own engines in 2028. It remains unclear which current engine manufacturers the automotive giant will rely on during 2026 and 2027.

General Motors President Mark Royce stated, “As the pinnacle of motorsport, F1 demands innovation and excellence. It is an honor for General Motors and Cadillac to join the world’s premier racing series, and we are committed to competing with passion and integrity to elevate the sport for racing fans worldwide.”
