The Chinese brand BYD has introduced its latest hybrid mid-sized pickup truck, the "Shark," aimed at taking on the Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger in global markets. The Shark showcases a distinctive front grille characteristic of BYD models, vertical headlights, and 18-inch wheels. The rear features vertically connected taillights with a horizontal strip, enhancing its visually appealing design.

Dimensions and Interior Design

According to BYD, the new Shark is larger than its competitors, with dimensions of 5457 mm in length, 1971 mm in width, and 1925 mm in height. This makes the Chinese truck longer than both the Ford Ranger and Chevrolet Colorado, but 81 mm shorter than the Jeep Gladiator. Inside, the truck is equipped with a 10.25-inch digital dashboard and a 12.8-inch central infotainment screen, featuring voice recognition, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, wireless phone charging, and an optional 12-inch heads-up display.

Hybrid Engine and Performance Figures

The BYD Shark is powered by a 1.5-liter turbo hybrid engine that can be charged via a plug, producing over 436 horsepower. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.7 seconds and offers a pure electric driving range of 100 kilometers. The new pickup truck supports a maximum towing capacity of 2500 kg and a payload capacity of 835 kg. It comes equipped with numerous advanced safety and driver assistance systems, including adaptive cruise control, rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, and automatic emergency braking. The global starting price for the BYD Shark 2025 is approximately $53,400, equivalent to 200,000 SAR. Additionally, BYD has revealed the specifications of its new supercar, the U9, boasting an impressive power output nearing 1300 horsepower.
