BYD has officially unveiled the Sealion 05 EV, a compact all electric SUV that expands its Ocean series lineup, joining the Sealion 07 EV and the hybrid Sealion 05 DM-i. Revealed during a special launch event, the Sealion 05 EV enters the market at a compelling starting price of RMB 117,800 (16,208 USD / 59,383 AED), offering advanced technology, urban ready design, and exceptional value.
Comfort Oriented Design Built for Everyday Roads
Built on BYD’s upgraded e-Platform 3.0 Evo, first introduced in May 2024, the Sealion 05 EV benefits from optimized component integration, improved performance, and faster charging. The compact SUV’s dimensions, 4,520 mm in length, 1,860 mm in width, and 1,630 mm in height, make it ideally sized for city driving, while a 2,720 mm wheelbase ensures a comfortable and stable ride.
The rear wheel drive system is powered by a permanent magnet synchronous motor. The base model delivers 140 kW of power and 330 Nm of torque, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.6 seconds. Higher trims boost output to 160 kW while maintaining the same torque, trimming acceleration to just 7.2 seconds.
Fast Charging and Extended Range for Daily Convenience
At the heart of the Sealion 05 EV is BYD’s trusted Blade Battery, utilizing lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry for reliability and durability. The entry level variant is equipped with a 50.05 kWh battery offering a 430 km CLTC rated range, while the upper trims house a 60.9 kWh battery capable of delivering up to 520 km on a single charge.
The model supports rapid charging, recharging from 30% to 80% in just 18 minutes, making it ideal for daily commutes or quick top ups during longer trips.
Technologically, the Sealion 05 EV comes standard with BYD’s God's Eye C smart driving system, a camera based setup that eliminates the need for LiDAR to keep costs low. The DiPilot 100 suite powers features like NOA (Navigate on Autopilot) for highway driving, enhancing safety and driver assistance.
The Sealion 05 EV represents a strategic move in BYD’s expansion into the smart compact EV space, rounding out the Sealion family that debuted with the Sealion 07 EV in May, followed by the hybrid Sealion 05 DM-i in September. According to recent data, the Sealion series accounted for 21,178 units sold in the first two months of the year, representing 3.4% of BYD’s total NEV sales, a clear sign of growing global demand for compact, intelligent electric mobility.
