BYD Yangwang U8 is a luxury SUV known for its exceptional power and opulence, reminiscent of large American or Japanese SUVs. It features rotatable seats that allow passengers to face each other.
Recently, we found spy photos of a long-wheelbase version of the BYD Yangwang U8 online. The images reveal a significantly longer vehicle from the C-pillar backward, suggesting a three-row seating layout potentially named Yangwang U8L. The official unveiling is scheduled for the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show.
Based on the spy photos, the long-wheelbase U8 retains the front design of the current model and its boxy silhouette. Major changes include an elongated rear door and triangular rear window, accommodating seven seats across three rows. However, the exact seating arrangement remains unconfirmed by official sources.
The known Yangwang U8 has a wheelbase of 3,050 mm (120 inches), and it’s likely that both the overall length and wheelbase will be extended.
According to spy photos of the larger Yangwang U8 version, it includes an octagonal spare tire cover at the rear, similar to the current model.
Will the upcoming seven-seater have updated interiors? It remains uncertain, but it will surely feature Yangwang U8's luxury. It boasts a curved 12.8-inch OLED screen with a tilt angle of 37 degrees and a 23.6-inch full LCD for instruments and front passenger entertainment. The rear row includes two 12.8-inch screens connected to front-row displays.
The standard U8 comes with smart adaptive electric seats that adjust their sides according to real-time road conditions to support lumbar and back areas. The seats are covered in Nappa leather. Additionally, BYD Yangwang U8 is equipped with Hi-End sound system from Evidence series featuring 22 speakers.
Power-wise, BYD Yangwang U8 features a hybrid system with a 2-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine paired with an electric motor, delivering 1,180 horsepower and total torque of 1,280 Nm (944 lb-ft). It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.6 seconds (high-performance version). It includes a battery pack of 49.05 kWh offering an all-electric range of 180 km (112 miles) and a combined range of 1,000 km (621 miles). Fast charging takes about 18 minutes from 30% to 80%, and it supports external charging.
Of course, we should not forget its smart adaptive suspension capable of analyzing roads in advance, rear steering assistance systems, tank-turn capability with up to 460-degree rotation, over 15 driving modes, among others.
