BYD made remarkable strides in 2024, selling a total of 514,809 new energy vehicles (NEVs) in December alone and 4,272,145 NEVs for the entire year. This marked the first time BYD surpassed the 4 million annual sales milestone, reflecting a 41.3% year-on-year increase compared to 2023. With this achievement, BYD secured its position as the world's leading NEV manufacturer by sales volume. Looking ahead to 2025, BYD has set its sights on an ambitious target of 5 million units and plans to introduce three exciting new models in the Middle East.
Breakdown of BYD Sales Figures
In 2024, BYD sold 1,764,992 battery electric vehicles (BEVs), representing a 12% increase from 1.6 million units in 2023. BEVs accounted for 41.5% of BYD's total sales. Additionally, the company sold 2,485,378 plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) in 2024, a significant 72.8% increase from 1.4 million units in 2023, with hybrids making up 58.5% of total sales.
Since April 2022, BYD has ceased the production of internal combustion engine-only vehicles to focus exclusively on NEVs, a term in China encompassing battery electric vehicles, plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs), and fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs).
Private and Commercial Vehicle Sales
BYD's sales report includes both passenger cars and commercial vehicles. In December 2024, the company sold 509,440 passenger cars, marking a 49.8% year-on-year increase. This was the third consecutive month where sales exceeded 500,000 units, bringing the total passenger car sales for 2024 to 4,250,370 units.
On the commercial vehicle front, BYD achieved 5,369 units sold in December—a 520% increase compared to the previous year—bringing the total commercial vehicle sales for 2024 to 21,775 units.
Global Expansion and Exports
In December, BYD exported 57,154 vehicles overseas, a 58% increase year-on-year. The total overseas sales for 2024 reached 417,204 units, representing a 71.9% year-on-year growth. Beyond vehicles, BYD is also China's second-largest battery supplier, with clients including Tesla, NIO, and Toyota.

New Cars to Be Launched in 2025:
Yangwang U8
BYD's brands, Yangwang and Fangchengbao, are anticipated to enter the Middle East market in 2025. Among them, Yangwang will debut its first model in the region: the Yangwang U8, a 1,000+ horsepower SUV. This model not only exceeds the Mercedes-Benz GLS and BMW X7 in width and height but also rivals them in terms of luxury and bold design.
Fangchengbao Bao 5
The first model from Fangchengbao to enter the Middle East market will be the Bao 5, a hybrid off-road SUV. Boasting a combined fuel and electric driving range of 1,200+ km, the Bao 5 is designed to tackle harsh terrains, including deserts and other challenging road conditions.
In addition, BYD plans to launch a new pure electric model, the TANG EV, in 2025. This spacious and comfortable seven-seat SUV is designed with families in mind, offering ample space and a smooth electric driving experience.
