While small sedans face extinction threats in North America and Europe, they continue to thrive in India. At the same time, as Maruti Suzuki unveils the new Desire, Honda has released teaser images of the Amaze, announcing its launch on December 4th.
The new generation of Honda Amaze is expected to showcase a more luxurious design, bringing elegance to its third iteration. The teaser images depict an idealized version of the car, with extended dimensions and exaggerated features, yet it is clear that the new model will be more visually appealing than its predecessor.
The front end features a hexagonal grille and elongated LED headlights, inspired by Honda's larger models. It also adds sporty air intakes and bolder touches on the hood. The rear design draws influence from the Honda City, equipped with aggressive taillights that feature dark accents.
The interior design resembles a miniature version of the Civic, with horizontal air conditioning vents and a standalone infotainment screen. This screen is expected to be a 10.25-inch touchscreen derived from the Honda HR-V, along with climate controls and the steering wheel.
Honda is expected to update its smallest sedan in terms of safety, adding numerous standard airbags and a few advanced driver assistance systems. Despite significant design updates, the new Honda Amaze is likely to rely on the same platform. The current generation debuted in 2018, based on a platform derived from the larger Honda City, which it also shares with the Honda HR-V.
The engine options are likely to consist of a 1.2-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine producing 89 horsepower, paired with either a 5-speed manual transmission or a continuously variable transmission (CVT). There are also reports of a compressed natural gas version, which is already available in competing vehicles. The Honda Amaze will compete with the all-new Suzuki Desire, Hyundai Aura, and Tata Tigor.
