BMW may soon reveal the production versions of the 3 Series and X3 Vision Neue Klasse, while other new models are also on the horizon. Recent spy shots have captured what appears to be the next generation of the X5 and iX5, heavily camouflaged.
The prototypes seem to be larger than the next generation of the BMW iX3, featuring similar design elements. They maintain almost the same size as previous generations of the X5, indicating that BMW's designers may want to retain a level of continuity in design.
Despite the heavy camouflage, some details are visible. The front end hints at a much smaller grille and more powerful headlights, reflecting the same design language used in the BMW Neue Klasse X concept. Other interesting features include hidden door handles and a rear wing reminiscent of the XM model.
Two different versions of the X5/iX5 have been spotted testing. The first features larger red brake discs, suggesting a high-performance variant. Meanwhile, the second prototype comes with massive 22-inch wheels, indicating a focus on either luxury or off-road capability.
BMW is expected to offer the new X5 with traditional internal combustion engines (ICE) and hybrid engines, alongside the fully electric iX5. Additionally, a hydrogen-powered version is anticipated. These vehicles will be based on the new fifth-generation platform. The models shown in the spy shots appear to be electric due to the closed grille and lack of exhaust outlets.
No official word has been given yet regarding the launch of the fifth-generation BMW X5/iX5, but rumors suggest a debut in the summer of 2026 as 2027 models. This aligns with BMW's plans to update most of its lineup in the coming years, standardizing design and technology across all models.
