Volkswagen announced that it will discontinue production of its classic compact car, the Polo, in Europe, ending 40 years of production of this model in Europe.

In recent years, Polo's sales in the European market have been on a downward trend, but it is still one of the key models of the Volkswagen brand.
In the first eight months of 2024, the Polo was reported to have sold more than 90,000 units in Europe, placing it eighth on the list of Europe's best-selling cars.

Meanwhile, VW's Pamplona site in Spain will be revamped to focus on the assembly of two new small, all-electric vehicles, which will be assembled there from 2026.
The new models are expected to be smaller and more cost-effective than the Polo, with one expected to be the VW-branded ID.2 and the other a Skoda-branded model.

Volkswagen has built 8.4 million Polos at the Pamplona site since production began in 1984.
The last model to roll off the site's production line in July was the Blue Life model with a 95bhp 1.0-litre TSi engine and a five-speed manual gearbox.
