According to the reports, Toyota's fifth-generation Prius breaks the Guinness World Record with a combined fuel economy average of 93.158 mpg, or about 39.6 km/l.
This performance is an improvement of more than 20 per cent over the previous record set by Gerdes car.
This record was achieved during a journey across the United States that covered approximately 5,168.73 kilometres.
The 2024 Toyota Prius is said to be powered by a 2.0L hybrid engine and also has a plug-in hybrid powertrain made up of a 2.0L naturally aspirated engine and an electric motor.
The former has a combined maximum power of 164kW while the latter has 180kW. Its drivetrain is also mated to an E-CVT continuously variable transmission.
