The Toyota Crown Sport SUV has made its first appearance in the Japanese market. As the latest member of the Crown series of electric vehicles, the Crown Sport SUV reflects the sporty design of the concept model unveiled last year and offers both self-charging hybrid and plug-in hybrid options.
There are several similarities between the Crown Sport and the Ferrari Purosangue in terms of overall look and the design of the slim LED headlights. The hammer-shaped front fascia from Toyota is a common feature among Crown models and has also appeared in the Prius and BZ electric vehicles.
The side design of the Crown Sport features a sculpted body and 21-inch alloy wheels, while the rear showcases a distinctive sporty style with horizontally arranged LED taillights, a small and sharply sloped windshield, and vertical openings on the rear bumper that enhance its sporty character.
The Crown Sport SUV will come with two engine options. The first is a self-charging hybrid, utilizing a 2.5-liter engine with an E-Four Parallel Hybrid system, producing a combined power of 231 horsepower sent to all four wheels via an electric all-wheel drive system.
As for the plug-in hybrid model, Toyota has not disclosed specific details but has indicated it will feature a good range thanks to a large-capacity lithium-ion battery. The TNGA platform supporting the Crown Sport has been meticulously adjusted to provide an enjoyable driving experience, focusing on the connection between the driver and the vehicle, and is equipped with a Dynamic Rear Steering (DRS) system to enhance agility.
The Toyota Crown will be produced at the Tsutsumi plant in Japan with a monthly production volume of 700 units. Initially, it will be offered in the Hybrid Sport Z trim at a price of $39,620. Reservations are currently being accepted in Japan, with the first delivery of the hybrid model set for November, followed by the plug-in hybrid model in December.
Additionally, the Crown lineup will further expand with the launch of the Crown sedan in November and the Crown estate in 2024, joining the existing Crown crossover.
