Opel unveiled its all-new Frontera in a public debut in Istanbul, Turkey, replacing the old Crossland with a larger size and a modern Stellantis platform. This SUV is a sibling to the Citroën C3 Aircross, available in both hybrid and fully electric versions, with prices starting at around €24,000 or $25,900. Opel also announced a 7-seat design option in addition to the standard 5-seat version.
Last month, Opel showcased the digital exterior and interior design of the Frontera. This time, Opel presented the Frontera in reality, providing additional details about engine options, classes, and initial prices.
The Frontera marks the first appearance of the new Opel “Blitz” logo on the glass front, accompanied by modern LED lighting. While the front and rear designs embrace Opel's latest design language, the dimensions and glass sections are shared with its counterpart, the C3 Aircross. The company chose only two classes for the car, namely the basic Frontera and the GS version.
Inside, the GS features a digital cockpit equipped with two 10-inch displays integrated into the same panel. Additionally, all versions include standard “smartphone charging” and various practical features, emphasizing the family-oriented nature of the SUV.
In the five-seat configuration, the trunk offers over 450 liters of capacity, extending to 1600 liters when the seats are folded down. Opel confirmed plans to offer a three-row, seven-seat design for the Frontera in the near future to meet the needs of large families. Additionally, optional roof rails are available, capable of supporting a maximum weight of 240 kg.
The vehicle features a hybrid system with a 1.2-liter turbocharged gasoline engine complemented by a 48-volt mild hybrid system. The internal combustion engine (ICE) produces 99 horsepower, with an additional 28 horsepower provided by an electric motor integrated into the 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Power is exclusively sent to the front wheels.
Additionally, a more powerful hybrid version of the Frontera will be offered, boasting 134 horsepower from the 1.2-liter engine paired with the same mild hybrid setup.
While the automaker has not disclosed specifications for the electric Opel Frontera, it has promised a WLTP range exceeding 300 kilometers in the standard model and around 400 kilometers in the long-range version. The electric model can utilize a 154-horsepower motor and a 54 kWh battery, a system common in most Stellantis electric vehicles. The Frontera starts at $25,900 in Germany, while the electric version starts at $31,282.
