Rimac Nevera has proven its worth in straight-line acceleration, setting records in the acceleration domain. Now, this Croatian company has launched the R version of Nevera, aimed at demonstrating that this electric supercar is more than just a 2000-horsepower machine.
Revealed at the Monterey Car Week in California after an intensive teaser campaign, the Nevera R is lighter and more powerful than the standard Nevera. With production limited to just 40 units, the Nevera R will be a rare model, expected to be priced at over €2.3 million (approximately $2.53 million), compared to the base model's price of €2 million (about $2.2 million).
For an additional $300,000, customers can get the Nevera with four motors, increasing power from 1889 horsepower to 1989 horsepower. Rimac also installed a new 108 kWh battery, replacing the previous 120 kWh unit. These modifications, along with a weight reduction of 35 kg, contribute to further enhancing the already insane acceleration of this electric supercar.
Despite the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires being replaced with Pilot Sport 4S tires, the acceleration times from 0 to 96 km/h and 0 to 100 km/h remain at 1.74 seconds and 1.81 seconds respectively. However, the acceleration from 0 to 200 km/h has been improved from 4.42 seconds to 4.38 seconds, and the time to accelerate from 0 to 300 km/h has decreased from 9.22 seconds to 8.66 seconds.
The top speed is limited to 350 km/h by default, but the manufacturer will unlock the same capability of 412 km/h provided by the standard car at Rimac-managed speed events. CEO Mate Rimac stated, "When we developed Nevera, it was crucial for it to be a grand tourer, ensuring it was spacious, comfortable, and precisely balanced between excitement and practicality." He added, "But we are tirelessly working to meet customer desires, many of whom are looking for a car that truly emphasizes Nevera's ability to corner and maneuver."
On the Nevera R, 20-inch front wheels and 21-inch rear wheels are wrapped in the aforementioned Cup 2 tires, while the standard Nevera features 20-inch tires. Rimac has also updated the carbon brakes with a layer of silicone, adjusted the torque steering program, and reduced oversteering by 10%.
To provide more stability for these tires, Rimac engineers added a new fixed rear wing and diffuser. It is claimed that downforce improved by 15% to provide 400 kg of downforce at 350 km/h, aerodynamic efficiency increased by 10%, and lateral stability improved by 5%. The result is a 3.8-second reduction in lap time at the Porsche Nardo test track in southern Italy.
Additionally, Rimac replaced the entire front end with a larger shell-style hood, giving the car a wider, lower, and more modern appearance.
