Since Kia ceased production of the K7 in 2021, the brand has struggled to maintain its presence in the large sedan market in certain regions. However, the introduction of the Kia K8 redefines this category, making it a new option. Initially known as the K7 in South Korea, the K8 has now replaced the previous model. The original design of the K8 was elegant and simple, but the front design was unsatisfactory, which has been improved in the new version.
The new K8 sports a boxier front design, featuring vertical headlights connected by a thin LED light strip. While the changes at the rear are less pronounced, they include a new bumper design and the removal of fake exhaust outlets from the previous model, enhancing the overall appearance.
Although the facelift of the K8 carries limited changes, Kia has implemented a bolder design shift that aims to make the K8 appear more impressive while incorporating the latest Kia design elements, similar to models like the EV9 and EV3.
The K8 continues to show family ties with other modern models like the K9 and the updated Sorento in its interior design, notably featuring a wide and slim digital display that integrates both the instrument cluster and infotainment screen into one unit. The dashboard design emphasizes horizontal lines, enhancing the sense of space, and the quality of interior materials has been improved, equipped with dual wireless charging pads for smartphones.
Available engine options at launch include 2.5-liter and 3.5-liter V6 gasoline engines, along with a 3.5-liter V6 engine running on liquefied gas. The 1.6-liter hybrid option is more in line with current trends, although it won't be available for order until the end of the year.
